It's not St. Helena without...

A fire in the ring. Tonight we cooked our brats out over an open fire in the fire pit over looking the Straits.

Then it was s'mores with chocolate melted over grams on the hot brick while we roasted marshmallows to a golden brown.

Now it is sitting in front of the big screen T. V.  ( otherwise known as the boathouse door) watching the sun go down and turning our bridge pink.

Sorry, you will have to come see us for that. But it would not be St. Helena without these things.

The dock's in!

As you can see the guys got the whole dock figured out and it is in place to welcome visitors to St. Helena light station. It has more water so larger boats can visit.

This means we are back to some of our favorite chores, like making Rice Krispie Treats.

Come join the fun with us in "heaven on earth", St. Helena Island in the Straits of Mackinac!

Lots of work going on!

Can you imagine living in this little house? It is the replication of the original assistant  keepers quarters, another project of Ann Arbor Boy Scout Troop Four. This summer saw the siding go on.

Big project this week is getting the new dock in the water. Co-president Steve Sheridan is going to get it all figured out.

Meanwhile, keeper volunteers are creating the path down to the new dock.
Once the dock is in visiting boats will have a much easier time stopping by "heaven on earth". Come join us.

If you let us know you are coming, we just might have St. Helena mints waiting for you.

Waking up on St. Helena

Looking out on the St. Helena tower with the rising sun reflecting is the only way to greet a new day.

Or eating breakfast in front of the tower while counting daisies between your table and the Straits. Maybe a Great Lake's freighter or a salty will slowly pass by.

Always the wild flowers!

Flowers to greet you.

The wild flowers are going wild on the Island. This is our new columbine and daisy garden. Beyond it you can see our little bay just full of water.

One of the best things about being on the Island this time of year are the wild flowers.

We are enjoying them along with the wonderful feeling of being home on the Island. We are getting back into the rhythms of the Island, up with the sun, fresh breezes, freighters passing by, carrying water, keeping the garden, relaxing afternoons, eating outside, being on the water and turning in at the end of a busy, satisfying day under the flash of the St. Helena light. Sounds a little like heaven on earth. Come join us.

Thanks to Troop 4 Ann Arbor

Thanks always and again goes to St. Helena's Boy Scouts. Their week has ended for this year but their work speaks for itself.

A highlight of the week, weather permitting, is their bonfires. Celebrating just being at St. Helena. Thanks guys and parents that make it all work.

See you next year.

On the Island

Yesterday, the summer keepers returned to St. Helena. The Boy Scouts left after a week of work and fun and Keepers Jane and Susie took over. They came with guest keepers to mark the official start of the summer season.

Stop by and check out our favorite light house.
