Stormy day

This is what it looked like out our little inlet for most of the day yesterday.  Angry waves as a result of a strong eastern wind.  The water was pushed up higher in the inlet then it has been all summer.

But it was a good day for painting.  Jack and Steve have been here since Friday and have taken on the floors in the front small bedrooms and the hallway upstairs.  Something we have not been able to do this summer with all our guest keepers.  Susie finished a second coat on the ceiling in Dick's room and started the repainting of the downstairs hallway.

This is Jack finishing up one of the last coats on the hallway while

Steve is getting those little pieces of floor in between the spindles.  Thanks guys you have done a great job.

While we had a day full of clouds late in the evening as we were sitting in front of the big screen,  the north and south towers of the Mackinac Bridge were turning red.  The sun had found a crack under the clouds to give us a blazing sunset.  I took off up the tower stairs and caught this brilliant light coming through one of the tower windows and reflecting on the tower wall.  It was a wonderful ending to a gloomy day.

On my way down the tower I caught Jonathan, our resident compost sea gull, standing guard atop the lighthouse chimney.  A fitting end to another wonderful Island day.  The keepers at St. Helena light station.
