The beauty around us.

While the day started out some where between fog and haze it turned into a brilliant afternoon.

Tim and Neil placed the red, white and blue bunting around the top of the tower as we get ready for the Fourth of July.

Diane and Tim had their second kayak rides as Neil and Jamie took them around to the harbor on the north side of the island.  They opted not to go all the way around the island as the wind had picked up and the waves were rolling in from Green Bay.

This butterfly was spotted along with several others behind the assistant keeper's house.  We have been hearing what we all are sure is loons for several days now and Neil spotted one and snapped a picture.  While I was walking FeeBee this morning we spotted several Tiger Lilies in front of the lighthouse.

Neil and Tim were back out extending the Beach trail.  After which Jamie, Diane, Susie, Pan and FeeBee had to inspect and hiked from one end to the other and back.  Feebee was in the lead and we had to hustle to keep up.

After dinner we all pulled up a chair in front of the big screen TV and watched the red breasted mergansers doing their mating dance.  Notice the rather stretched out neck of the one in the middle.  This was taken after both the ladies had pretended not to take notice of the male efforts.  In this picture both pairs are heading into the tall grass.

We finished the evening off with a camp fire and some more of those wonderful melted chocolate s'mores made on our newly discovered hot rock cookers.

Tomorrow Diane and Tim leave the island and head back to Colorado while Neil and Jamie head to the Grand Rapids area.

From the 9th of July through the 12th we need a third on the island to keep from having to close up and go back to Mackinaw City for those days.  We have a rule, there has to be three of us on the island for safety.  Jamie maybe our third.  We will only be say good bye temporarily.  If anybody else is interested you know how to find us.
