The Fourth of July.... The day just cried for a kayak trip around the Island. Four of us obliged the weather and set out around the island. One of the best parts of the counter clockwise trip is this view as you return to the light.
But before we could take off for our trip around the new crew of keepers took on the showers. The excitement of our new arrivals was the return of Keeper Jane. She has had some health issues and was not able to come out and stay as we opened the Island for the season. But here she is doing what she does so well, remembering how everything goes and making sure it works right.
This is the pump house for the showers and there was need for some shoring up of the whole system.
We had dinner cooked on our new charcoal barbecue. This is Mark suffering the smoke but boy were those sausages great.
We headed to the camp fire as the day darkened into night. From there we watched no less then seven communities' firework displays and enjoyed Hot Rocks s'mores. FeeBee survived in the assistance keepers' house. But the thunderstorm early this morning had her with her head behind the stove.
Another beautiful day is dawning and Keeper Jane is off to town and the return trip will bring Susie back on the Island. She has been visiting with her daughter and family for the Fourth.
