This morning as I was waiting for the internet to up load these pictures more then 30 Canada geese walked out of the tall grass that grows next to our small inlet and one by one they glided into the water. The Canada geese use our Island to have new families on and at the end of the summer they fly south.
One of the pass times on our Island is Geocashing. We have several regular keepers that are avid Geocashers, including our light Keeper Jane. Here Jane is getting ready to head out and place fresh cashes.
Keeper Jane and Lori have placed some 12 cashes on the Island in the last five days. We will see folks out looking for them all summer. There is going to be an official Geocashing outing in August. Google the internet for more info.
This is the picnic table that turns into a workbench by day with Hogan finishing up some shelving for the winter kitchen closet.
This is Michele painting the inside of the closet to get ready for the new shelves. It has been great to have Keeper Jane back as she gets us all organized and into what needs to be done.
We have several types of work out here on the Island. There is the work that needs to be done to repair and get the station ready for winter.
Then there is the work that is part of the never ending effort to make the station what it use to be and efficient.
Also the work to greet and support our visitors to enjoy this wonderful resource of history. Today we have one on our "Lunch of the Island" cruises coming. We greet them in period costumes, feed them lunch and just make sure they have a pleasant day on our little "heaven on earth".
An finally there are the jobs that keep the resident keepers sustained like our garden. Below is a picture of this keeper, Pan watering our garden which also needs regular weeding.
